Farmers Market

N. 2nd Street in front of Brewhouse Sqaure, Open To The Public

Sept. 10, 2015 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Fondy Food Center, a well-known nonprofit whose mission is to connect neighborhoods to fresh, local food, brings its first pop-up farmers market to Schlitz Park. The weekly market will run Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on N. 2nd St. in front of Brewhouse Square through the end of October. Each week, a rotating list of three to four local farmers from Fondy’s longstanding Fond du Lac Ave. market will sell mostly produce.

Shoppers will be able to pay with cash or debit and credit for their purchases.

Here are few farmers market shopping tips:
• Know Your Seasons: At producer only farmers markets, like Fondy, the farmers only sell what they grow. So you won’t find out of season tomatoes in June trucked in from Florida, nor will you ever find citrus or bananas.

• Shop Early, but Not Too Early: Often farmers will bring limited amounts of specialty produce. Shopping early ensures you get the best of the pick of high demand, seasonal produce.

• Or Shop Late, but Not Too Late: Farmers may discount produce towards the end of the market but don’t show up late expecting a discount. It’s up to the farmers.

• Ask Questions: Farmers are often great cooks and the farmers who grow the produce are often the best source for recipes.

• Bring Your Own Bags & Baskets: Not only is it more environmentally friendly, you’ll save the farmers one of the many costs of doing business.
